I LOVE SWIMMING. I started doing open water swims years ago, before the New York Harbor got so busy. I've swum from the Christopher Street Pier to Battery Park City, under the Brooklyn Bridge from Manhattan to Brooklyn, and around Governor's Island twice.
I joined the YMCA swim team on Main Street in Buffalo because my older sister did, breaststroke was my stroke, I did the 50 and the IM. When I was in 4th grade, I came in 4th Place in the 50 meter breaststroke in the New York State swim meet. But that wasn't enough to get to regionals.
Swimming across the Hudson has been a dream for many years, it's why I started doing open water swims. To do this race, you used to have to have had previous open water experience, and to get that, I had to prove I could swim a mile in a pool- and get it signed by the lifeguard- in order to do the NYC swims. Now, there aren't many barriers- I guess the waivers are more...water tight? Sorry.
