I can't explain myself, but every now and then something athletic captures my imagination even though I am generally sedentary and bookish--when I learned about this organized swim across the Hudson, I decided I have to do it! River Pool is a great organization dedicated to Hudson River conservation and also providing free summer access to the river itself for Hudson River communities, via floating "river pools." I've never had a chance to annoy friends and family for money before, so this is very exciting for me!

Questions:
Is it safe? Yes, the swim is organized as a group activity and there are escorts in boats and kayaks. Swimmers wear colored caps and ankle trackers.

What about the current? The swim takes place during the river's "slack water" period, when the current reverses and the water is still.

Will you grow a third eye? Pollution levels decrease as you head up the river, and Beacon-Newburgh is far enough up that we'll be fiiiiiiiiiine

How long is it? It's one mile across the river one way from Newburgh to Beacon, and we are transported back to the Newburgh side
