Ruth Bader Ginsburg, Joan Ruth Bader, (born March 15, 1933—died September 18, 2020), She devoted much of her legal career to advocating for gender equality and women's rights. Ginsburg targeted laws that appeared beneficial to women but in fact reinforced the notion that women needed to be dependent on men. As the director of the ACLU's Women's Rights Project, she argued six gender discrimination cases before the Supreme Court between 1973 and 1976, winning five. In 1993, Bill Clinton nominated Ginsburg to replace Byron White on the U.S. Supreme Court. She was the second women named to the Court and served until her death in 2020.
