Juozas "Joe" Vaiciunas was diagnosed with Bulbar onset ALS December 2017. Joe is a boisterous guy who loves to socialize, tell a good story, make others laugh, lend a helping hand, enjoy a good meal with a high ball, then tell another story again. He spent most of his career as a successful professional photographer specializing in weddings and most recently as Administrator of Divine Providence Catholic Church. His greatest and proudest accomplishments are his sons Justin and Matt. He loves to brag about them and his face beams any time he speaks of them He has been happily married to my mom, Jane, for 12 years. This union brought him 4 step children, 2 step son in laws, 1 step daughter in law, and 9 step grandchildren. Joe is also blessed with a sister, niece and nephew, cousins, aunts, uncles, and many friends.
Joe has always played an active role in the Lithuanian community. He has worked for the Lithuanian Catholic Church, worked at Camp Dainava, ran the Lithuanian Life Detroit web page, and most recently founded Lithuanian World Zep day. (Pasaulio Cepelinu Diena) Zep day is now recognized and celebrated internationally every Super Bowl Sunday.
Joe's diagnosis of Bulbar onset ALS was a devastating blow to the family. He has lost his ability to speak and is now losing his motor skills as well. Honestly it is horrifying to watch someone as social and jovial as Joe be overtaken by this disease. Unfortunately there is currently no known cure for ALS. We formed this team to honor Joe, show him how much we care and love him, show support, and to raise money and awareness for ALS. Please consider making a monetary donation and joining us for the ALS walk on September 24. This team will be Joe's voice for himself and for all families affected by this terrible disease. Thank you for your consideration. Please spread the word and continue to pray for our family. Thank you! Aciu!
