Linus Pauling
“The only sane policy for the world is that of abolishing war.” (Nobel Lecture)
Unitarian Linus Pauling was the only recipient of two undivided two Nobel Prizes: Chemistry (1954) and Peace (1962). He received the Peace Prize for his advocacy to rid the world of weapons of mass destruction.
Why I selected Dr. Pauling: As a retired biology teacher I have always admired Dr. Pauling’s pioneering work as a molecular biologist. Though he received public criticism for being a “peacenik” he did not back down as an activist for the elimination of nuclear weapons. During the 1960’s he actively opposed and spoke out against the Vietnam war.
