Yoshiyuki Tomino

is an award-winning mecha anime creator, animator, director, screenwriter, and songwriter.

“My audience is not my current viewers or Gundam fans. It’s the children. I want my work to provide food for thought for kids under 10.”

Notably, Tomino has depicted battle and warfare in a negative light, portraying it as the destructive waste that war always is.

Tomino received a Japanese award for Persons of Cultural Merit in 2021.

His groundbreaking stories incorporate realistic depictions of social issues, resource depletion, culture, and emerging technology.

Why he is a peace hero

I selected Yoshiyuki Tomino as my peace hero because of the strong anti-war message in his works.

The majority of the anime Tomino directed has an undercurrent of this, including Mobile Suit Gundam, Space Runaway Ideon, and Aura Battler Dunbine.
